While attending the Screwfix Live show in Farnborough in September, Spear & Jackson UK’s Area Sales Manager Gareth Davies and National Account Manager Matt Williams were lucky enough to meet loyal S&J customer Colin Mitchell who was delighted to tell him about his 100-year-old spade!
Originally owned by his wife’s grandfather, Colin has been using the Spear & Jackson Neverbend Spade personally over 50+ years. Now in their 70’s, Colin and his wife estimate that the spade must be at least 100 years old and is still going strong!
Matt Williams, National Account Manager at Spear & Jackson UK said: “We are delighted that Colin came to chat to us on the stand and even more so that he sent pictures of the spade to us. It’s an amazing story, and incredible that Colin is still using the spade for his gardening today. Not only is the spade ‘Neverbend’; it truly has a lifetime guarantee!”
Not even the rain could dampen the atmosphere at the 2024 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The Team at Spear & Jackson UK has recently returned to the show where there were more umbrellas than usual on display amongst the flowers and show gardens thanks to the great British weather! Fortunately, gardeners are a hardy crew and were not deterred by the rain from stocking up on the garden tools on offer on the S&J stand. Some of the most popular items this year were the new Telescopic Easy Reach Pruner along with the Kew Flower Spade, and it seems that everyone wants a new pair of gardening gloves!
For the second year in succession S&J teamed up with fellow Sheffield-based company, Orchis Floral Designs who created the floral displays for the stand. This year Orchis created a display using typical English cottage garden plants featuring contorted willow branches laced with climbing passion flowers. The RHS enforce strict rules around plant health at the show, this means that the plants were required to have their own plant passport to prove that they were cultivated in the UK by reputable growers.
In addition to the impressive show gardens at Chelsea there are many other interesting and unusual things to see. It was an unexpected pleasure to discover the @gardenandwood stand where we found some vintage Spear & Jackson tools for sale amongst a selection of other garden antiques and collectibles. S&J tools have a well-deserved reputation as the ‘Tools to Trust’ and it was great to see these items enjoying a new lease of life.
Spear & Jackson are delighted to announce a new partnership with Benross Marketing, the leading UK supplier of electrical homewares and appliances, in a collaboration brought together by IPR licensing.
The new exclusive licensing programme will launch later this year and feature a range of Air Treatment products for the home including de-humidifiers, diffusers, air purifiers and related accessories, plus Air Temperature-Control priducts for the home such as heaters and fans.
Commenting on the partnership, our MD Ian Archer said “we are thrilled to enter this new relationship with Benross Marketing and it marks a new milestone to see our brand further incorporated across an ever-growing category of Spear & Jackson performance products for the home. Our core tools business continues to innovate and evolve from our proud heritage in Sheffiled since 1760, and over these past few years we have been delighted with the success and growth of our brand licensing programme. Welcoming Benross to the programme has been positive from the start and we are looking forward to working together and bringing new Spear & Jackson products to customers across a wide retail landscape”.
Amit Juneja, Managing Director, Benross Marketing, commented “we are all very excited to be part of the Spear & Jackson family of licensees. We have been keen to work with S&J for some time and when the opportunity presented itself, we were delighted to forge this new relationship and we’re looking forward to bringing some stand-out products into retail later this year and beyond”.
We are delighted to announce that Spear & Jackson has been voted the cream of the crop in the Great British Growing Awards. In 2021 more than ever before, people have been spending their time in the garden and on the allotment, and the gardening enthusiast readers of Grow Your Own Magazine have voted in their thousands to give the Gold award for The Best Garden Tool Range to Spear & Jackson. This success is all the sweeter coming in our 260th anniversary year, and is a real cause for celebration after what has been a particularly challenging few months.
Spear & Jackson Marketing Manager, Karen Abbott, says “We’re absolutely delighted to win the Gold award for the Best Garden Tool range and we’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the readers of Grow Your Own magazine who are users of our gardening tools and have taken the time to cast their vote in the Great British Growing Awards”
We have acquired a collection of endorsements for our Garden tools this summer with Best Buys from Kitchen Garden Magazine for the Elements Hand Tool set, Kew Gardens Collection Carbon Edging Knife and the Multi-Function Spray Gun. The spray gun was also awarded a Best Buy from T3 Smarter Living
Karen goes on to say “Our reputation is built on the quality and performance of our tools and dates back to when Spear & Jackson was founded in Sheffield back in 1760. 260 years later we’re delighted that customers continue to rate Spear & Jackson garden tools as the best.”
