Robert Sorby were pleased and honoured to host the Master Cutler – Dame Julie Kenny DBE, and the Hallamshire Mistress – Rachel Abbott, at the Robert Sorby facility on the 15th May ’23.
Robert Sorby has a long history and association with The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire, which dates back to 1624 when Robert Sorby became the very first “Master Cutler”; two of his sons also held this high office! The Master and Mistress Cutler were introduced to the Robert Sorby Management team, chatted with the office staff, and had lunch and a brief presentation on the history of Robert Sorby.
During a factory tour, they interacted with several highly skilled employees and observed some of our world-class products manufactured using traditional methods and modern CNC technology. The event culminated in a Robert Sorby tooling presentation, which will be displayed in Cutlers Hall, Sheffield.
Robert Sorby have won The Sheffield Maker – Manufacturing Company of the Year 2021 at Sheffield Business Awards. Taking place on December 9th at Peddler Market in Kelham Island, Sheffield, the award recognises a company that demonstrates an efficient and innovative approach to manufacturing, as well as exhibiting growth, improved commercial performance, increased market share and operational effectiveness. An incredible achievement for all involved!
Robert Sorby is the World’s premier manufacturer and exporter of specialist woodworking tools and associated equipment, with a proud Sheffield heritage dating back nearly 200 years. The business employs 55 personnel selling to global stockists (B2B) and the public (B2C) through our retail facility in Doncaster. Manufacturing is through both traditional skills passed on from the early cutlery industry to hi-tech CNC technology production. Some of the highly skilled employees have been with the company for over 40 years.
Robert Sorby has been accredited as a member of Made in Britain. Robert Sorby’s adoption of the official, protected mark will help buyers recognise its products as good quality, great value and British-made.
The mark also lets customers know that Robert Sorby is a trusted company that values transparency, sustainability and ethical business practices. Consumers are increasingly recognising the Made in Britain mark as a mark of confidence.
